Site-Specific Installation "In The Cage", Mesaros Gallery, West Virginia University
cast paper, text from T.S. Eliot's "The Waste Land"
In a conventional gallery space, "In the Cage" presented corridors and chambers, lined with leaning strips of cast paper bearing fragments of text from T.S. Eliot's poem "The Waste Land". An inner chamber of hanging paper casts with protruding abstract figurative forms trapped like fossils in a cliff wall, led to a cold chamber lined with cast paper boxes. Stencilled text from T.S. Eliot and physical references to Celtic burial chambers raised issues of cultural attitudes to death, as the viewer performed a ritualistic walk through the installation.
